SECRET LOVE REVIEW
Friday, December 27, 2013 • 5:18 AM • 0 comment{s}

I'm glad to say that I survived watching this drama. To the very end.

I won't be mentioning any spoilers for those who haven't watched it yet. And for those who haven't, what are you waiting for?

Definitely my favorite melodrama of the year. If you are like me, you might be hesitant to watch this because you might cry tears of blood. Well, I assure you that you will, but it all pays off in the end.

Now, let's list off the best and the worst of this drama, for me at least.

THE BEST

THE ACTING
I have seen almost all of Ji Sung's recent dramas, and I've always liked him but this was it for me. His character wasn't an easy one to pull off and if it hadn't been Ji Sung portraying Min Hyeok I would probably have a different opinion on this drama.

Hwang Eum Jung's acting was really compelling as well. I felt and suffered every damn thing that happened to her throughout the 16 episodes.

Bae Soo Bin. How I hated you in this. This guy is such a good actor, I'm still waiting for him to actually play a character that you don't wanna punch in the face every time he appears on screen. But maybe it's because he's that good at playing those guys that he keeps getting these roles, who knows.

Lee Dae Hae is still a little green for my taste. I watched I hear your voice not long ago and I felt like I was seeing the exact same character. She got better near the end of the drama though, so I was not bothered by her too much.

Yo Jung's cellmates. THE ACTUAL BEST. They were the ones that gave the drama a bit of a light comedy tone that was very much needed between all the tragedy.

THE ROMANCE
Okay, it didn't start because of the best of reasons. But it got so cute near the end I'm still smiling like a fool.

THE TEARS
This has to do with the acting really, unless you count all the tears I cried while watching this. But it felt so good to cry with the characters.

You know how sometimes you are watching something that you know is supposed to make you really really sad, so sad that you end up crying but you're just left totally unaffected? Well, this drama handles the sad very very well. DAMN YOU DRAMA.

THE OST
Such pretty songs. Sometimes you get tired of listening to the same songs over and over again, but not this time for me. Plus, there's one sung by Ji Sung <3

THAT IT'S 16 EPISODES
... and not a trillion. Just because. When you have a melodrama like this one, it's usually more episodes long. I'm glad they didn't do that with this one cause it kept me excited and there wasn't a lot of filler scenes like in others.

THE WORST

AHN DO HOON

Not really, he just made me hate him A LOT.

THE ENDING?

Not really, I liked the ending. There's just a little something I would have definitely changed. I'm just not buying that someone could be as good a person as Yo Jung is after everything's that happened to her. But that's just probably because I'm not that forgiving.

JI SUNG'S CRYING
Because it made me very sad. And he's really pretty when he cries. And that made me sadder.

I think I'm not really listing bad things? lulz. I'm sure there were a lot, I'm just biased cause I loved it even with all of its faults.

RECOMMENDED?

YES A MILLION TIMES YES GO WATCH NOW. (Unless you're looking for something light and happy, then don't)

Secret Love

(Spoilers for the first three episodes below)

After watching a zillion kdramas in a month, I've been taking a break from them and catching up with my other shows. But I'm back now.

I have decided to make this blog entirely in English because kdrama discussion is so international I think it will be better this way.

And what am I watching now? Secret Love, Secret, Binmil or however you want to call it. I've wanted to watch it since I read the synopsis a couple of months ago, and now that it's aired completely, I'm finally watching it.

I'm three episodes in and I gotta say, LAWD THE DRAMA. And I'm loving it. Melos are not usually my thing except a few exceptions cause they end up ripping my heart out and stepping on it and this one is doing exactly that. And I have only seen three episodes, I am scared for my poor little heart. I know it's going to get worse for our poor main character but I'm hoping everything works out for her in the end. Cause yeah, after only 3 episodes I already want to kill half the characters.

The plot for this drama is somewhat similar to others I have watched. But for me, there's a little bit of a twist I was not expecting.

The Plot

Kang Yoo Jung's a really really hard working girl who's about to get married to his boyfriend of 7 years, Ahh Do Hoon, who has just made prosecutor after the poor girl has been paying for his studies all that time.

They have a car accident, he is the one driving but she takes the blame so he doesn't to give up his career. (GURL, NO)

The car accident ends up being a hit and run, because they killed a person and they didn't stop to help that person. The thing is, he is the one that gets out of the car and checks if they've hit something. He sees the girl they've run over unconcious on the road and he, being the stupid moron he is, decides it's best to ignore her and keep driving. Yoo Jung doesn't know this, and stupidly takes the blame thinking he hadn't realized they had hit someone either.

It is true he tries to talk her out of it at first, the thing is he doesn't really try too hard. So she goes to jail.

That's part of the story. But.

Our Ji Sung plays Min Hyuk, a chaebol who dedicates his life to playing with daddy's money. The only thing he cared about, his girlfriend Ji Hee, disappears and when he finally finds her. It's too late.

She's been killed in a hit and run accident.

DRAMAAAAAAAAAAAA~~

And she was pregnant with his child. And he didn't know.

DRAMAAAAAAAAAA~~

Anyway, the twist for me. Yoo Jung and Min Hyuk, for what it said on the synopsis, are going to fall for each other. But I thought that that would happen when she got out of jail, and after falling in love he would find out that she killed his girlfriend (even though she didn't but) and then OH FEELS MY NEW GF KILLED MY LAST GF OUUUH. But that's not the case, cause Min Hyuk already knows that she is the one responsible. Well, he thinks she is. And he swears to make the rest of her life miserable.

MY POOR GIRL. Seriously, Ji Sung is great in this drama. The revengy faces he makes. KILL ME. I'm actually scared for what he's gonna do.

What I was saying, the plot twist for me is that he's going to fall in love with her actually knowing what she did. Well, thinking that she did it. And that's very interesting.

I remember a little drama called Crazy for Love starring Yoon Kye Sang that had a similar plot and it was the other way around. Guy killed girl's boyfriend in a car accident and later on she falls in love with him and after that, she realizes he's the one who'd killed him.. This guy was actually the one driving though so it doesn't really apply here.

And that's until I have seen. Also, I hope nothing happens to her poor dad. Mainly cause he's one of my favorites drama dads, the characters he plays are usually very endearing. See Who are you, not the Taecyeon drama, the other from 2008 starring Yoon Kye Sang. One of my favorites.

Going back to Secret. I'm loving it so far. Even if it has made me cry like five times already in only three episodes and even if I know it's going to get worse.

Also, another thing. I've been reading some comments about the first episodes, and I've seen people saying that Yoo Jung was responsible for the accident too. EXCUSE ME. How is it her fault, she wasn't the one driving, her boyfriend who she trusted completely got out of the car and said that they hadn't hit anyone, why wouldn't she believe him?

The only thing she can be blamed for is if she knew he had drunk too much and still let him drive. With that I agree, but I'm not sure if they mentioned that on the show so apart from that, she's not responsible.

Anyway, I'm getting excited here so I will come back if the drama doesn't kill me before.

Also, another show I had in my to watch list is Heirs, but after reading some reviews and watching bits of it I'm not sure if I'll even watch it. I'm pretty sure it will be one of those dramas that will be fun the first three or four episodes and then it will drag itself so much it start being boring. Maybe I will give it a try because I adore Lee Min Ho, but after watching him in Faith I am sure I will be disappointed because Faith was EVERYTHING.

I love Park Shin Hye as well, but I'm not sure if she'll have a lot of chemistry with him. And I adored her with Yoon Shi Yoon in Flower Boy Next Door but, you never know. Will have to watch it first.

The other drama in my to watch list was Mirae's Choice but given how unsatisfied people have been with the finale, I'm not even going to bother.

I'm excited about watching Pretty Boy though, IU and Jang Geung Suk seem like a perfect fit for a drama couple.

And that's it for me today.

FAITH

- Faith
- I hear your voice
- Flower Boy Next door
- The Master´s Sun
